How to install M-Audio delta drivers on Server 2008 R2

by 4. December 2009 17:49

When i tried to install latest Windows 7 drivers on my PC(currently running on MS Server 2008) I saw the following message “The operating system is not supported by …”. How to trick the installer? Well, solution comes from this post. Simply we need to open unpacked installer in Orca – a tool for MSI installers editing and delete some version checks.

I did this once too.

Instead of making this procedure unnecessary with removing that OS check M-Audio gone even further about preventing installs their drivers to server operating systems. Huh!

Latest Win7 x64 driver i tried to install on Srv2008R2 didn't install because of OS check, just like before. So i extracted it and noticed that they don't include .MSI file in driver .exe anymore. Frown

So, obviously it's their policy and they think that they know better what customers want.

All should know by now that Windows 7 drivers work in Server 2008 R2 as well as Vista drivers work with Server 2008 because they are practically same OS which have been tuned to different purposes.
Same was with XP and Server 2003.

There is no reason which is based to usability of the drivers in server OS, it's so just because they WANT it to be this way.

They are eager to ask why anyone would like to use M-Audio products on Server? They don't realize that there is many many ppl. in the world who study IT stuff.
It's just better way to learn windows infra if running Server OS and using those server roles daily basis than just read about those or use virtual machines.

If learning by using just VM's they wouldn't be started everyday. Now, when running server OS in main computer at home it forces to deal with server everyday and step to play with Active Directory, Certificate Services etc. is smaller which leads to more time spent with learning.

So. We have now Server OS in main machine because of learning purposes. We still want to watch movies and listen music through it. Or even make some music. powerfull PC's have resources to this things at the same time nowadays.

My Server have several server roles on it and it runs Hyper-V as well. There is couple more virtual machines running.
There still is enough CPU and RAM to make music.

BUT. M-Audio does not make this too easy. Latest Win7 x64 driver wont install on it. And because they have now prevented this editing .msi file trick by stopping using it i can't see it any other way that M-Audio just wants to be difficult. Do they hate their customers or what?

I'm glad that i got some older driver version installed.
